Hi, my name is John Darr with Darr Schackow Insurance and this is my Auto Insurance Tip of the Day. Now this is an easy one. All I want you to do is to make sure the ‘Named Insured’ portion of your auto policy matches the title exactly. I know that sounds simple, but it could lead to problems. Let’s say, for example, your uncle Fred cosigned on your car loan when you bought it. Well Uncle Fred is going to be a titled owner of that vehicle. When you go to buy insurance from your local independent auto insurance agent, you may not tell them that Uncle Fred is a titled owner of that vehicle. You just show up and say, “Hey, I need auto insurance on my car.” Well, when they write that auto policy, they may list just you as the only named insured. Well the problem with that is, if you get an accident, they’re going to sue the driver and they’re going to sue the owner or owners of that vehicle. So if your policy doesn’t have Uncle Fred listed as a named insured, you could have a problem and there could be a gap in coverage. So real simple tip, just make sure that the auto insurance policy ‘Named Insured’ portion matches the registration or the title of your vehicle. So you don’t leave Uncle Fred out hanging in the cold, which would make Thanksgivings really awkward.
