For some, a boat is more than a means of transportation. Boating can be a lifestyle and it brings joy to more than 75 million adults nationwide. We understand this and where there is a boat, there should be boating insurance, which typically is NOT covered by your homeowner’s insurance policy. Homeowner’s insurance only covers water vessels with up to a 25 horsepower outboard and sailboats that are less than 26 feet long. This can get tricky but with your boat information it’s simple to figure out if your boat is covered under your policy.

Boat insurance can be combined with home and auto insurance that could allow you to receive bundling discounts, which vary with insurance carriers. A boating insurance policy will come in handy when accidents such as bodily injury, property damage, guest passenger liability, medical payments or theft occur. Some policies will also cover acts of vandalism, fire or floods and many even cover roadside assistance, in case you get caught in a bind and need a tow. You want to make sure while you are having fun out on your boat that all passengers and the boat itself is covered. It’s better to be safe than sorry in the long run.

Contact your insurance representative to decide which type of coverage will best suit your needs. Darr Schackow Insurance can also provide coverage for your boat trailer and other of your favorite boating accessories.
